Plantation Area
In the south-western part of the site is a mixed plantation dating from the development of Dearne Valley Park in the 1980's. This area has developed into woodland with a diverse range of deciduous tree and shrub species including Ash, Beech, Oak, Birch, Hazel, Willow, Elder, Hawthorn, Crab Apple, Alder and Rowan.

This woodland tends to be open in its upper part, below the embankment of the old railway line, and more dense towards the valley bottom.

The field layer in this area is dominated by Bracken and grasses. In a few places in the west of this area, Honeysuckle can be found climbing on Hawthorn.
