Young Oak and Birch Woodland

This area, which mainly occurs around the northern edge of the Oak-dominated woodland and on the upper slopes of the site, is dominated by a dense growth of young Birch and Oak. At the top north-eastern corner of the site can be found a number of Sweet Chestnuts which have developed following the cessation of coppicing.

A limited shrub layer exists in some areas, this being dominated by Holly together with occasional Elder and Hawthorn.

As in the Oak-dominated woodland, the ground flora is dominated by grasses, mainly Wavy-hair Grass, together with Creeping Soft-grass, Bracken and Bramble on areas of deeper soil.
