Young woodland
At the Herringthorpe Valley Park edge of Herringthorpe Wood, close
to where this joins Gibbing Greave, is a small area of 10 to 15
year old woodland, interspersed with areas of open grassland being
invaded by young trees.
Sycamore
and Oak are the dominant tree species here, along with smaller
quantities of Hawthorn, Silver Birch, Ash, Crab Apple, Yew and
Crack Willow. The flowering plants are typified by grasses, with
Nettle, Hogweed, Cleavers, Creeping Buttercup, Creeping Thistle
and Lesser Stitchwort also being present.
