Glade

In the centre of Gibbing Greave is a natural glade associated with springs. The wetter eastern parts of this are dominated by Creeping Buttercup, with associated plants including Nettle, Yellow Archangel, Wood Sorrel, Bluebell, Water-cress, Great Woodrush, and Hogweed. Elder is also frequent here, as are mosses and liverworts and fallen dead and rotten timber. The drier western part of the glade is characterised by Bracken and Bramble.

As well as abundant Bluebell, a number of other ancient woodland indicators occur in the glade, including Yellow Archangel, Wood Sorrel, Dog's Mercury, Yellow Pimpernel, Wood Anemone, Great Woodrush and Remote Sedge, the last of these being a rare plant in the Rotherham area. Other species include abundant Creeping Buttercup and Great Willowherb as well as Hedge Woundwort, Bittersweet and Wild Angelica.
