Cut areas under power lines

The tree felling works associated with the various overhead transmission lines have created significant areas of open space within the woodlands. Cutting of trees in these areas is essential in order to avoid trees touching and damaging the power lines. The cut trees and shrubs, which include Birch, Oak, Field Rose and Goat Willow, have readily coppiced and exhibit rapid regrowth from their stumps.

The ground vegetation has Bracken, Bluebell, Creeping Soft-grass, Wavy-hair Grass and Rushes as well as increasing amounts of Bramble. These areas have become attractive to wildlife preferring open but sheltered conditions.
