Planted Sycamore-dominated areas

These usually consist of even-aged Sycamore, sometimes in combination with Beech and occasional mature Oak and Ash.

As with the Beech dominated plantations, the woodland structure is usually poor with a sparse understorey, and any young trees that do occur are mainly of Sycamore. However, unlike the Beech dominated areas, the ground flora can be diverse, particularly in places where the canopy is not very dense and where this contains little Beech. Bluebell can be abundant, together with other ancient woodland indicator species such as Wood Sorrel. Localised patches of Bramble and Bracken also occur in these areas.

Sycamore-dominated areas are mostly concentrated in The Lumb and Lees Hall Wood.
