Alder dominated woodland

Alder, being well suited to areas of wet ground is dominant in wet areas of lower Prior Royd and along Sough Dike.

The shrub layer here includes frequent Hazel and Goat Willow and the ground flora includes species characteristic of damp places such as Meadowsweet, Remote Sedge, Wood Horsetail, Opposite-leaved Golden-saxifrage and Wood Speedwell.
