The Community Forest programme is leading the way in the development of new partnerships with the aim of enhancing the environment around a number of major towns and cities.

Each Forest is an area in which a partnership of public, private and voluntary sector bodies is undertaking major environmental and landscape projects which are both improving local quality of life and contributing to the economic regeneration of the region.

The South Yorkshire Forest covers an area of 195 square miles and includes most of Barnsley and Rotherham and the north, east and south-east of Sheffield.

The Councils
The woodlands covered by the ‘Fuelling a Revolution’ programme are owned and managed by three local authorities, these being;

	Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council
	Sheffield City Council.
	Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Each of the councils is supporting the programme financially as well as undertaking the work required to manage the woodlands, to promote public access, and to run interpretation and education programmes.

One of the woodlands, Wickersley Wood, is owned by a private landowner but leased by Wickersley Parish Council.

Funders

	The majority of financial support for the ‘Fuelling a Revolution’ programme comes from the Heritage Lottery Fund, who have provided 1.6 million pounds towards the programme.
	Some aspects of the programme, including this website, are part funded by the Countryside Agency.
