HERDINGS
WOOD - VEGETATION
Herdings Wood is a small and attractive woodland with a rich ground
flora and a predominantly semi-natural character. The wood forms
part of the network of woodlands and adjacent open meadows, which
is such a characteristic feature of this part of Sheffield.
In comparison
to other woodlands in the valley, Herdings Wood is relatively uniform
in composition. Only two woodland types are present, these being
semi-natural Oak-dominated areas; and mixed Sycamore- and Ash- dominated
areas. Unlike other woodlands in the Gleadless Valley, there are
no big blocks of planted non-native trees.
WOODLAND TYPES
