reference SK366836) lies to the west of Blackstock Road and between this
and Lees Hall Open Space (grid reference SK363837). The latter has significant
areas of species-rich meadows and open grassland as well as scrub and
scattered trees. The mix of habitats in this area, taken together with
the adjacent woodlands, makes it of particularly high value for birds.
Close to the south-eastern corner of Lees Hall Wood is Lees Hall Meadow
(grid reference SK368833), a small, neglected meadow area with some scrub
and with a relatively rich flora for its size. A short distance to
the north-west of Lees Hall Wood can be found the smaller Heritage Woodland
of Hang Bank Wood. Another Heritage Woodland,
Carr, Ashes & Coneygree Woods, lies
about half a mile to the west. Immediately on the opposite side of Blackstock
Road from Lees Hall Wood is Rollestone Wood,
the largest of the seven Heritage Woodlands in the Gleadless Valley. Buck Wood Stream (grid
reference SK369841), a stream with wooded banks which supports a variety
of trees and shrubs and good areas of woodland flora joins the Meers Brook
close to the northern edge of Lees Hall Wood.. VISITING BY
