GIBBING GREAVE & HERRINGTHORPE WOODS - VISITING THE WOODS

LOCATION

Description
Herringthorpe Wood and Gibbing Greave are situated in the Brecks area of Dalton, a mile and a half east of Rotherham town centre.

The two woods are immediately adjacent to one another and both border Herringthorpe Valley Park. To the south of Herringthorpe Wood lies Great Bank, an area of grassland, scrub, young woodland and old quarries.

VISITING BY CAR

Parking
The nearest car park to the woods is in Herringthorpe Valley Park. This can be reached by turning off Herringthorpe Valley Road into Herringthorpe Lane; then left into Brookside and left again onto the access road to the car park.

Informal parking adjacent to the northern tip of Herringthorpe Wood can be found along Brookside. As this is a residential road, the amount of parking is limited and consideration should always be given to local residents.

Informal parking adjacent to the eastern edge of Gibbing Greave can be found along Brecks Lane where this passes the eastern edge of this wood. Again, consideration should again be given to other road users.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Buses
The immediate area is well served by public transport.

The number 14 bus runs every 10 minutes from Rotherham Interchange to Herringthorpe Valley Road before turning up Herringthorpe Lane, where there is a bus stop just beyond the junction with Brookside.

Regular buses, including the numbers 1 and 2, also run along Wickersley Road, to the south of the woods. These leave Rotherham Interchange at 7 minute intervals and there is a stop close to the point where the southern end of Brecks Lane meets Wickersley Road.

All bus routes and times are of course subject to change and so you are advised to contact Traveline on 01709 515151 to confirm these details.
