ACCESS TO THE WOOD
Please refer to the access map below.
Access Points
The main access points
are:
- From the car park
at the end of Concord Road, into the highest part of the wood at its
northern end.
- Along the Trans-Pennine
Trail from Ecclesfield Road, Deep Lane and Wooley Wood Road, into the
northern tip of the wood.
- A Public Right
of Way leading into the southern/central part of the wood from Ecclesfield
Road and marked by a public footpath sign.
- Paths into the
southern end of the wood from Low Wincobank Recreation Ground, one of
which is the Trans-Pennine Trail.
- Access to the southern
edge of the wood from between houses on Woodbury Road.
- Access into the
south-western corner of the wood that can be reached from Concord Sports
Centre, Shiregreen Cemetery, Hinde House School playing fields and from
between houses on Woodbury Road.
- Into the upper
part of the wood along a Public Right of Way running across the golf
course from Oaks Lane.
Paths
Two Public Rights of Way cross the wood, one running along the length of the wood, the other crossing this at right angles in the central part of the site.
Part of the Trans-Pennine Trail runs through the wood parallel to Ecclesfield Road. At least some parts of this are accessible to bicycles, horses and people in wheelchairs.
In addition there are a number of unofficial but well used paths through most parts of the wood.
Wheelchair Access
The sloping nature of the site and the current state of the paths, currently makes wheelchair access into much of the wood impractical. However, at least some parts of the Trans- Pennine Trail are accessible to people in wheelchairs.
TOILET FACILITIES
The nearest toilet facilities to the woodland are at Concord Sports Centre. However, these do not have 24-hour access.
